In 1942, The first PBY-5A landed at the Whidbey Island Naval Air Station on Crescent Harbor. This launched a long career of one of the Navy's most versatile aircraft. She served as patrol plane, torpedo plane, dive bomber and search and rescue of downed airmen and hundreds of seamen from stricken vessels in all weather conditions.

In September 1998 the PBY Memorial Dream took flight
